METINVEST GROUP TAKES UNPRECEDENTED MEASURES TO STOP CORONAVIRUS

27.03.2020

Metinvest Group cannot stay on the sidelines, recognising the risks and threats posed by the spread of COVID-19. We understand that clear and informed actions of the big business, its ultimate care for employees and support to residents in the areas of operations are now more important than ever. Therefore, our No. 1 priority is to get prepared for the possible consequences of the pandemic. We will do everything we can to secure our enterprises against instability and ensure that they continue to provide jobs, pay taxes and support the country's economy which directly depends on their operations.

Employees' health and safety are the absolute priorities of the Group. Since 17 March, Metinvest has introduced special measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. We have cancelled all public events and business trips. All premises and vehicles that transport employees to and from work are regularly cleaned with disinfectants. The canteens have been transformed into refreshment stands that serve wrapped snacks and bottled water.

Metinvest is taking measures to provide its staff with personal protective equipment required during the crisis, despite a shortage in the market. The Company has purchased more than 160,000 masks and respirators and over 1 million disposable gloves for all employees of the Group working in Ukraine. It has also provided hand sanitisers for all the staff members and continues to look for supplies of protective equipment and materials. We are looking for all possible options to purchase protective equipment and immediately deliver it to our companies upon the first availability.

Metinvest is ready to help save patients suspected of being infected with COVID-19, pneumonia and other pulmonary diseases by providing medical facilities with oxygen, which is so much needed during this epidemic. Ilyich Iron and Steel Works and Azovstal supply the oxygen to Mariupol municipal and regional hospitals, the perinatal centre, oncology clinic, and all medical institutions that reach out to the companies.

The Group is also participating in the work of anti-crisis centres fighting with coronavirus. The Company's health resorts are now on standby and ready to start admitting patients at any moment. Metinvest is expecting a delivery of 20,000 COVID-19 test kits to be distributed among medical facilities in Kyiv, Mariupol, Zaporizhia, and Kryvy Rih. Metinvest allocates money for procurements of personal protective and special equipment for law enforcement officers, personnel of laboratories and emergency aid posts, since these people oversee the quarantine measures and are daily exposed to risk.

Despite the difficult situation, Metinvest Group continues to pay full salaries to all of its employees. The administrative personnel of the managing company and up to 95% of executive teams of the production plants have switched to teleworking. The workers at risk have been sent on paid leaves or work remotely. Amid the economic uncertainty, the businesses of Metinvest have decided to refuse temporarily from tax breaks to maintain a steady inflow of revenues into the local and national budgets, as well as to ensure the effectiveness of COVID-19 response.

We remind that Metinvest's shareholder, Rinat Akhmetov, has consolidated the efforts of all SCM businesses, his Foundation and FC Shakhtar to assist Ukraine in its fight against coronavirus. Earlier, Rinat Akhmetov  allocated UAH 300,000 at his own initiative to help the country combat COVID-19. Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is purchasing 300,000 test kits for the Stabilisation Fund of the President of Ukraine, as well as at least 200 ventilators for the public hospitals.
